Indiana University Health is seeking a skilled and compassionate Medical and Molecular Genetic Counselor to join our team! This role is integral in providing genetic counseling services to patients and families seeking information about inherited conditions, genetic testing and genetic counseling. Our Medical and Molecular Genetics team is a team oriented environment focused on research, education and management of genetic and metabolic conditions and treatments. Our multidisciplinary approach assures that each employee is able to work at the top of their scope and do what they do best on a daily basis. Key Responsibilities
- Provide pre and post genetic counseling to individuals and families with concerns about inherited conditions, genetic testing and molecular genetic disorders
- Support patients and families in understanding the implications of genetic testing
- Assess family history and medical histories to identify genetic risks and recommend appropriate genetic testing and follow-up care.
- Assist and educate patients and families about genetic testing
- Interpret molecular genetic results and complex genetic test results
- Communicate with families and healthcare providers regarding test finding
- Work closely with geneticists, medical providers, and interdisciplinary healthcare teams to ensure comprehensive care plans are developed and followed through
- Ensure compliance with ethical, legal and regulatory guidelines related to genetics testing, patient confidentiality and informed consent
Qualifications
- Master's Degree in Genetic Counseling
- Required to reside in the state of Indiana
- Required to maintain a current Genetic Counselors license in the state of Indiana
- Board Certified / Board Eligible by the ABGC (American Board of Genetic Counseling)
- Experience with molecular genetic (2 years' experience ideal, but would consider new grads)
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Detail oriented
