See consults in hospital/rounding and provide supervision of stress tests. Patient population includes primarily middle-aged to elderly people with cardiovascular and thoracic pathology, including cancers, valve disfunctions and other cardiovascular diseases. 

Qualifications:

  • ACNP, AGNP, FNP or PA certification required

Indiana University Health Southern Region is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Advanced Practice Provider with a diverse acute care background to join our dynamic General & Trauma Surgery team in Bloomington, IN.  We are a Level III trauma center in Bloomington, IN and referral center for the South Central Region of IU Health.
Providing comprehensive care to General & Trauma Surgery patients across the continuum of care is the priority for this role.  Care is delivered in a variety of settings, including outpatient clinic, the Emergency Department, the operating room, inpatient units and through discharge.  Working closely with our board-certified General Surgeons, the APP will have an impact across the continuum of care for the General & Trauma Surgery patient.

Schedule:
•    Full Time, Day Shift
•    Approximately 80% inpatient, 20% outpatient
•    Four 10-hour shifts, beginning at approximately 0715.  
•    There will be a weekend rotation, approximately every 4-5th weekend
•    Holiday rotation
•    Schedule is subject to change based upon the number of APPs and needs of practice.

Key Responsibilities:
Consult Services
•    Respond to all trauma 1 activations as well as General Surgery emergencies
•    Perform initial assessments, including physical exams, diagnostic tests, formulate care plans for both trauma and acute care patients
•    Provide consultative services for patients in the Emergency Department and inpatient units, working with ED physicians, hospitalists, and our surgery team to ensure timely and effective patient management
Inpatient Floors
•    Manage and coordinate care for trauma and post-surgical patients on the floor and PCU
•    Conduct daily rounds, assess patient progress, adjust treatment plans, and ensure effective communication between care teams
•    Monitor post-operative recovery, recognizing signs of complications or deterioration, and initiate appropriate interventions
•    Assist, manage and coordinate disposition and discharge planning as well as coordinating follow-up care
•    Provide direct care to critically ill trauma and surgical patient 
Procedures and Interventions
•    Including but not limited to wound care, chest tube insertion/removal, central line placement, arterial lines, biopsy, bedside ultrasound, gastrostomy tube placement/removal, and more.
•    First assist in the OR

Qualifications and Experience:
•    ACNP or PA certification required
•    Must be board eligible or board certified
•    Experience managing critically ill patients in an ICU setting preferred
•    Strong clinical judgement and ability to work in high-pressure situations
•    Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
•    Ideal clinical background: Minimum of 5 years of nursing experience in acute care, trauma, critical care, or emergency medicine required. PAs with robust surgical rotations required.  Critical care rotations also preferred.
