The Department of Neurology Adult Epilepsy program is the only program in Indiana's providing comprehensive management, diagnostic investigations and social, psychiatric and psychological evaluation. The epilepsy program is certified as a Level 4 comprehensive epilepsy program by the National Association Epilepsy Centers (NAEC), which is the highest level given to institutions. 

We are recognized as a referral center for the most complex patients requiring invasive monitoring with Stereo EEG and Functional Brain Mapping — state of the art evaluation and treatment including resection — laser ablation, neuromodulation with responsive neurostimulation, deep brain stimulation or vagus nerve stimulation as well as epilepsy clinical trials. The center also offers magnetoencephalography (MEG), a noninvasive diagnostic test that measures brain activity and pinpoints the location of epileptiform activity through magnetic fields. We work closely with maternal-fetal medicine, pediatric surgical and medical subspecialties, and neurodevelopmental follow-up programs to ensure seamless, family-centered care. This position will primarily support the Level III NICU's in the Community Health Network.  The hospitals offer 24/7 access to in-house Riley neonatologists, neonatal nurse practitioners, respiratory therapists, and a full range of pediatric subspecialists via consultation. A portion of the FTE will be at Community Hospital East. Recognized as one of Indiana’s Perinatal Centers and named “Best Place to Deliver a Baby” by IndyStar, the unit has received multiple awards for excellence in maternal and neonatal care.

  • Community Hospital North: 48 beds—including 42 private suites
  • Community Hospital East: 16 beds --including 14 private rooms and 2 mother/baby suites

Clinical Responsibilities

  • Serve as a primary daytime attending physician at Community Hospital North, Community Hospital East, and Community Hospital Westfield, all Level III NICU's in the Indianapolis metro area, with potential opportunities to provide coverage at other NICUs managed by the Division.
  • Participate in the high-risk delivery service and provide consultation for high-risk obstetric patients in the Community Health Network.
  • Night call responsibilities are an expected part of the role and include in-house coverage during both weeknights and weekends.

The Martha Ann (Rieth) Van Dyke NICU, a 60-bed Level IV unit located in the Simon Family Tower, provides the highest level of care for premature and critically ill newborns. Riley Children’s is consistently ranked among the top neonatology programs in the nation by U.S. News & World Report and ranks 6th out of 47 U.S. centers in patient complexity, according to the Children’s Hospital Neonatal Consortium. In addition, the Riley Maternity Tower houses a 45-bed Level III NICU, a dedicated labor and delivery unit, and one of the nation’s few obstetrical intensive care units. Riley is also home to the Heart Center NICU, which includes specialized beds for cardiac intensive care newborns, along with a newly added 12-bed Progressive Care NICU.
